Although they're most likely to be influenced by financial considerations, movies can be a product of whimsy. That's how some reviewers rationalised the production of the bizarre Emoji Movie which was vehemently derided across all critical platforms. That said, The Emoji Movie is hardly the first film whose own cast hates it and it definitely won't be the last.
Actors tend to strike a go-hard-or-go-home kind of balance with their work at times, resulting in unsurprising tales of skirmishes and stars completing films just to fulfill a contract. In Jennifer Garner's case for example, a supporting role pivoted into a lead character of a spin-off and the actor was obliged to offer her acting services despite not wanting to. Robert Pattinson also hated the franchise he led for a long time before coming around and Dev Patel definitely didn't like his work in The Last Airbender. The list could go on and it does in this specially curated video.
From campy, over-the-top action sequences to poor working environments, a host of things can sour the relationship between an actor and the movie they're working on. There's one common thread here and that is the actors' outspokenness about not liking a particular project or their work in it. In the common interest of everyone who makes, distributes and watches films, there's a lesson to be learned in each of these ten examples on what to not make as a producer or choose an actor.
