With recent news that Fantastic Beasts antagonist Johnny Depp was asked to step away from the role of Gellert Grindelwald following domestic disputes with ‘Aquaman' star Amber Heard, fans of the Harry Potter franchise were shocked to hear that Johnny earned $10 Million for the role that he had only filmed for one day.

This led us down quite the rabbit hole of actors who were paid money to not actually be featured in the film. There are a million reasons why actors get paid to not be around a set. Sometimes actors film their entire role like Shailene Woodley in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ only for the performance to be left on the editing room floor. Other times stars like Terrence Howard believe they deserve more money than their contract states, while watching fellow stars like Robert Downey Jr receive massive pay raises which is what led to the recasting of Rhodey by Don Cheadle in ‘Iron Man 2’. Other times actors secure a hefty payout and the film itself is entirely cancelled leading to a mindblowing payout for absolutely zero work completed which is what Nicolas Cage experienced when joining the Kevin Smith written, Tim Burton directed ‘Superman Lives’. The making of a Hollywood flick is filled with controversy, scheduling conflicts and rewrites that affects everything from an Academy Award winning film like ‘The Lovely Bones’ to blockbuster juggernauts like Marvel Studios ‘Avengers Endgame’. Compiled are a list of stars who despite being paid for their role, never actually appeared in the finished film.
