10 Marvel Phase 1 Movie Moments Disney Wouldn't Allow Today

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man, no one could have predicted its near-total domination of the cinematic landscape. In another surprise move, Disney ended up purchasing Marvel Studios a few movies into the franchise, prompting fanboys the world over to protest. Would the MCU become to family friendly, shying away from the more intense action/adventure stories on the horizon? Thankfully, Disney has expertly steered the ship and allowed Marvel Studios to do their thing. That being said, when we paid a visit to the MCU’s Phase 1 entries, we noticed more than a few things we think Disney would be less inclined to slide by these days.

First and foremost, though Tony Stark was a known womanizer back in the day, the sight of him relentlessly hitting on a journalist and taking her to bed may have given Disney execs pause. There were also a couple of recasting scenarios involving both Edward Norton and Terrence Howard that one questions would have been allowed under Disney’s tutelage. There was a general lack of representation in the Phase 1 films as well, something Disney and Marvel have course corrected as evidenced by films like Black Panther and Captain Marvel. There’s even a general shying away from the bloodier violence that graced the screen in the first Captain America film.
