The Harry Potter franchise is one that is “technically” made for kids. While most of the series balances its wholesome attitude with plenty of scary monsters and evil villains, there are a few moments that more adult fans understood in a way that the kids in the audience never could. That’s because this franchise was about more than just magically trained children saving the world. No, it was also about a bunch of teenagers running around a castle with little to no supervision getting into all kinds of trouble unbecoming of a pg-13 rating. The franchise is full of winks to the camera about dirty things happening here and there you may have missed if you weren’t looking. Though, let’s be honest, you totally were.

Between the relationships that likely progressed further than what we saw on screen, a few highly suggestive lines and one particularly naughty Marauder’s Map sequence, it’s clear that more was going on in Hogwarts than the filmmakers would like you to believe.

As fun as dissecting those moments of teen angst are, we must talk about the creepy moments in the franchise as well. There are a few sequences with ghosts, love potions and other horrifying concepts make you wrinkle your nose at the supposedly kid friendly franchise.

So let’s dive into all of this and more as we go through all the moments in the Harry Potter franchise you didn’t get when you were a kid!
