Who’s the hottest hero? The goodliest good guy? Who cares! Everyone knows that the thing a movie needs to be a winner is a good villain. Er... not a ‘good’ villain, but an effective one.

A compelling villain is what makes a film go from entertaining to enthralling. So it’s no surprise that actors who can play a great creep, slime-ball, murder magnate, or literal super villain are in high demand in tinsel-town. It’s also no surprise that certain performers have risen up above the standard-issue hive of scum and villainy to stand as paragons of horrifying evil on the silver screen-- either through a single unforgettable performance (here’s to you, Heath) or via a series of truly deplorable roles (Oh, Tom Hardy, what wouldn’t I do for you?) But who’s the best of the worst? Or, uh, the worst of the worst? Quantifying the quality of evil is a semantic head scratcher. Still, here we go:
