When a TV show becomes really popular, it gets hard to imagine it done any other way. How could we ever picture a series that we love with a different cast, or set in an entirely different country? Well, whether we know it or not, we have actually been watching tons of remakes of British TV shows all along! That’s right, some of our favorite shows of all time are actually not originals, and got their start all the way across the pond. Sometimes it works out for the best, and the American version is actually an improvement or just as good as the original. Other times, things do not go very well, and a remake of an already popular series will either get dissed by critics or just fade into the background. But when a show is a smash hit on one side of the world, there’s no doubt that studios will try and get in on the action back in the USA. Like The Office, which actually started as a Ricky Gervais show in the UK before morphing into one of the most beloved American comedies of all time. Or Veep, which started off as the British political satire The Thick Of It before coming to America. It isn’t just comedies that get this treatment, however, as both House of Cards and Gracepoint, and Shameless all have their roots in the United Kingdom! Check out the rest of the video to see all of the other American shows that you never knew were actually remakes of British hits.
