There’s a new Star Wars movie on the horizon so you can bet your life savings that the internet is working on a slew of crazy and interesting theories to explain what we saw at Star Wars Celebration. It was there that the title of the film, The Rise of Skywalker, and our first teaser trailer were dropped, seemingly confirming Emperor Palpatine was back from the grave. How is this possible? There are a few explanations for this, one tieing to Darth Plagueis, another to the Vader comic. But Palpatine isn’t the only one theorized to come back; The Hollywood Reporter believes that Luke may find a way back from the grave. The title itself has brought up many questions, who is this Skywalker and why are they rising now? One idea is that Rey is in fact, a Skywalker by blood, another suggests that the Skywalker name will become a title. A more radical theory suggests that the rising Skywalker is none other than Palpatine thanks to a bombshell piece of information in the comics. The title could also mean the return of Anakin Skywalker to the saga. One reddtitor suggests that Kylo Ren is actually the current host for Darth Plageuis while Kevin Smith believes the name Skywalker will simply be the new religion in a galaxy far, far away that replaces the Jedi. Finally, Naomi Ackie may or may not be playing the daughter of a certain smooth-talking smuggler and she’s being coy with that information, as evidenced by her response at Celebration.
