Being a part of the boys feels like it’d be a dream until you realize all the group’s tragedy to get to this point. What’s crazy is it’s even worse for them in the comic books. The group receives way worse treatment, and that’s not even mentioning The Seven. Everything you think is brutal and graphic in the series was ten times worse in the comics.
We’re about to get into all of it, from Ryan’s dad to Hughie and Annie’s relationship. Things rotate a lot for this Prime Original to get off the ground. They changed the history of The Female’s origins and The Butcher’s motivations. They even created a love story between A-Train and Popclaw. The creators wanted things to be different and to soften the tone.
They clearly did this when they changed Homelander’s scenes to make him slightly more bearable and Starlight’s introduction to The Seven. That being said, the writers for The Boys know the roots of this story. They wanted to honor the themes, and they’ve still done that. We here at ScreenRant just want to show what you’re missing out on if you don’t check out the comics. It’s the whole reason Simon Pegg’s character even exists at all.
You’re just going to have to watch to understand all the things that have changed. Even Robin and Ryan got different fates thanks to the series, so we promise it’s not all bad. Just certainly less dark is all.
