For all of the amazing and classic episodes that The Simpsons has given us over the years, there is nothing quite like the Treehouse of Horror Halloween specials. The perfect blend of creepy, funny, and pitch perfect parody that these episodes bring is unbeatable, and no Halloween season is complete without at least one Treehouse of Horror marathon. These amazing behind the scenes facts make us love the episodes even more, and will have you rummaging through your old DVDs in order to find them as soon as possible. It’s a good thing the fans were so vocal about how much they loved them, because early on, the writers didn’t even want to continue making them because of how labour intensive they are to write. If they had quit, we’d never have gotten the amazing guest intros from Guillermo Del Toro and John Kricfalusi. EC Comics provided a ton of early inspiration for the writers of the show, as did the horror/sci-fi classic The Twilight Zone. They got pretty pointed with the easter eggs in the tombstones from the opening credits for a minute there, and of course James Earl Jones has done a handful of truly classic voices. An Iraq joke was put in that never made it past censors, the Ironic Punishment Division was inspired by a classic cartoon, and of course The Simpsons did Harry Potter before the movies came out in theatres. Roy Simpson was originally a Treehouse idea, the crazy Dolphin episode was inspired by a classically hilarious movie from the 1970’s, and Matt Groening’s favourite line might totally surprise you! All this and more might just make you love the Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors even more.
