You should have known movies are you to get you. At every turn they’re tricking you into thinking wizards are real, people can walk on ceilings, or that you can peel off a section of Arnold Schwartzenneger’s face. Good thing I’m here to show you seventeen ways Hollywood tricked you into suspending your disbelief.
And get ready because we have four whole list items about Star Wars! Everyone’s favorite type of trivia. How’d they get those speeders to float, how’d they get those sand crawlers so big, how’d they make those waterfalls so real, and how’d they film the opening crawl before computers and After Effects?
Speaking of movies before computers, 2001 A Space Odyssey was filmed SO long ago, a special effect they created to float a pen used double-sided tape which was JUST invented. Crazy. And before green screens, Dr. No used rear projectors with blown up fish, and explained it away in the movie. And I’ll forgive you for not knowing that the opening titles of The Thing were created with a fish tank and a trash bag.
How’d they get the eyes to glow in Blade Runner? How’d they get such a great silhouette of the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Open those ears, those minds and prepare to learn a ton of movie trivia you can use to impress your friends, your coworkers, or your therapist. But I’m sure you have more important things to talk to them about.
