Aquaman was the perfect way to cap of 2018. It was a crazy and imaginative adventure film that brought the DCEU back on track and was honestly, quite a fun time at the movies. But no matter how good or fun a movie is, there are always some plot holes. These things happen and they in no way bring down the movie. That being said, it can be fun just to go looking for them and question what’s really going on in the film and in the writer's room. There are a few inconsistencies and plot holes in the Jason Momoa led film, which co-stars Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson. Questions as to if Arthur Curry has been to Atlantis before or not have been brought up and a visual inconsistency with Justice League thanks to James Wan distancing himself from the DCEU become noticeable. The lighthouse where Thomas works is actually in the wrong state! How is Vulko able to breathe on land? Where was King Orm during the events of Justice League? If Atlantis has been at peace for ages, when did they go to war with the Amazons? Also, if the seven kingdoms have been at peace for so long, why do they have huge standing armies? Arthur carries a piece of Atlantis with him despite only recently adventuring there and not picking anything up. How could the Trench attack on the surface? The characters speak normally in this film but there’s one tiny inconsistency with how they speak in the whole movie. How did Arthur and Mera escape from the Sahara Desert? Black Manta and his father may be the worst pirates ever if they think it’s a good idea shooting inside a submarine. Also, there’s no way that sub was going to work after what they did to it. We know Black Manta is good at what he does, but how can he build the Black Manta suit in such a short time without ever seeing Atlantean tech before? Arthur and Mera thankfully steal a magic boat after their battle with Manta in Sicily. Between Justice League and Aquaman, Arthur’s thoughts on his mother really change a lot. His mother, Queen Atlanna, also can’t make up her mind on if she’s staying or going back to Atlantis. She also has an iron grip, holy moly! Mera’s actions towards Arthur don’t line up with her characterization throughout the film. He also seems to not remember who she is despite meeting her in Justice League. Julie Andrews has a voice cameo in the film, but her character breaks all logic thanks to some skeletons. Arthur and Mera also have it very easy during their adventure in Sicily. Also, where was the Justice League during the movie? Not one name drop of events elsewhere? Also, there is no way Arthur and Mera should have found the Trident of Neptune thanks to the passage of time.
