Description

When did you learn to never trust again? Don’t worry, we’re not going that dark. I just mean on screen. If you live a life of tranquility and don’t remember the first time some on screen storytelling made you go, “oh no, not THAT ONE,” allow me to jog your memory.

From Toy Story 2’s Stinky Pete and Toy Story 3’s Lotso many of us were doomed from childhood and now thanks to Wreck It Ralph we can scar our own children. And of course, Pixar just isn’t enough for Disney. We’ll be spending time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seeing poor Peter Quill, poor Peter Parker, wait a minute- What Peter did Mickey dirty like this? Was it Peter Pan? I bet it was. He seems shifty. Don’t worry… Iron Man and WandaVision get their day in the sun. We’re not Peter pain exclusive here.

Wonder Woman and Batman will assure you that petty sneakery is not reserved for Marvel alone. No genre is safe: Ghost Ship, Saw, True Blood, and Alien have deep cuts and Hot Fuzz and Rush Hour actually use laughs to make us less likely to suspect the characters most present. The path from page to screen is fraught as well, with Harry Potter and Jurassic Park giving us new insecurities we’d have never thought of on our own. There’s too many ways a person can be deceptively evil (one of those ways is a rat).

Lost and True Blood bamboozled us a la the tiny, less silver screen that is television. Video games aren’t safe either: Tomb Raider and Bioshock took two very different routes of villain reveals, but both of them hurt my feelings and were VERY RUDE INDEED. And M. Night Shyamalan, oh of course he’s here. We know he’s gonna do the twist and still when he does it… Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me an entire series… well, I still hope you feel a little bad.
