"This is real life, not a movie!" did not become a popular saying out of the blue. Movies have a penchant for making and playing by their own rules and these rules aren't necessarily grounded in facts and science. Cars exploding at the slightest impact, shooting at locks to break them open and never staying down long enough to be overtaken by the villain are just some salient rules that films have come to accept and abide. Besides being implausible, these moments also call into perspective our own rationalisation of inaccuracies and suspension of disbelief.

Movies don't give precedence to practicality for a number of reasons, but they also keep the facade up at times to assist the audience's perceptions. Sounds, for instance, are often played up or used where they don't belong to cue viewers in about feelings of suspense or danger. This video is a comprehensive compilation of thirty funny movie moments that we brush off which are entirely unrealistic and have little practical backing. Needless to say, they also serve as a cautionary tale of things to not mimic or pick up from movies because they could potentially put your health or life at risk (e.g. Jumping off of buildings into dumpsters.)
