For a minute there, Tom Cruise had a tumultuous career full of a lot of insane stories, including when he seemed to mind meld with Oprah before jumping on her couch. So Tom did the only thing he could do to save his reputation and his career. Do on-screen stunts more insane than his personal life.
Ever since Tom began doing his own stunts, people have completely forgotten about Katie Holmes, Scientology, and all the other weird little tidbits we’d hear. Now Tom works incredibly hard on his movies and puts his body through the ringer.
In Mission Impossible 2, he climbed a rock face for the opening scene with no safety net under him and just a tiny support cable. In Mission Impossible 7, he outshines even Homer Simpson when he jumps over a cliff like Bart tried to do in Bart the Daredevil. In Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, he climbed literally the tallest building in the entire world, the Burj Khalifa, but not before successfully completing a HALO jump. He clung to dear life on the side of a plane in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, and thought, why not also learn to hold my breath for six and a half minutes, and drive a motorcycle with the safety features turned off along a cliffside? He fell off a helicopter to his almost certain death. and actually broke his ankle jumping between buildings in MI: Fallout.
By the end of the Mission Impossible series, there won’t BE anything else for him to do.
