8 Clues John Wick Really Is Dead After Chapter 4's Ending

Despite hints of John Wick's survival, there are clues that Baba Yaga truly died in John Wick: Chapter 4, including his on-screen collapse and his emotional sacrifice. Keanu Reeves' silence on John Wick 5 suggests that he may not return, as director Chad Stahelski has no interest in the film, and undoing John's death so quickly would lessen its impact. Wick has been healed from gunshots before, as the New York doctor helped John at the beginning of John Wick: Chapter 3, and John could have been sent to the doctor following the duel. Nevertheless, Winston and John were in France, and there was no way John could have survived long enough to be transported back home to the doctor. If John did survive in the John Wick: Chapter 4 ending, it would totally undermine the character's sacrifice. John Wick's death was so meaningful for a multitude of reasons, and that's what makes the movie surprisingly emotional. John Wick: Chapter 4 wasn't always supposed to end with John's death, as an alternate ending where John Wick survived was shot. Given that not only was John's survival removed from the final cut but that the character's survival tested badly with audiences, John's death couldn't be more definitive. Keanu Reeves is reprising his role as the assassin, but not in a sequel. John Wick will appear in Ballerina, and the character will, of course, be played by Reeves, but the movie is a prequel. Not much has been revealed about Ballerina other than that Ana de Armas is playing the titular female assassin, but the timeframe has been confirmed, and the movie will take place between John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.
