We all love some good TV these days and a testament to what makes a show so great and memorable is the writing. Most of the time, scripts are written in a carefully controlled environment with the writing team but sometimes, writers like the play by their own rules. For example, Rick and Morty’s writers actually use the same formula for every episode. They never divert from it! Most animated shows take months to complete just one episode, with animation being outsourced, voice work and writing. The same can’t be said for South Park, who get things done in around 6 days. That allows them to be up to date with current events and politics. Seinfeld actually hired writers just for their wacky stories and then fired them every season to keep things fresh! One of the writers on the Simpsons was actually a recluse and never showed up to staff meetings. Instead, he wrote in a diner and chained smoked like you wouldn’t believe. On another Matt Groening project, Futurama, the writers are actually Phd students and applied their knowledge to the show! The Office wrote their pilot to be a near duplicate of the UK original version while Stranger Things wasn’t conceived in the halls at Netflix. Star Trek Discovery might be hot right now but an older series, The Next Generation, actually used some fans scripts for their third season, the first show to do so.
