Movie franchises are a fascinating, living organism that are oh so fascinating to just study. What’s the best entry? What’s the worst? For this video, we’re tackling a slightly more heady topic: which movie MADE the franchise? This isn’t necessarily the best movie in the series — although these two things often converge — but the movie that either sums up the basic tenets of the franchise or set it on the path toward what people think of today when they hear the title. Sure, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled to the brim with great films, but which one really set us up for the wild menagerie of characters we saw in Avengers: Endgame? How about The Fast and the Furious, a franchise that has evolved more dramatically than just about any other series still being made? From Mission: Impossible to Friday the 13th, this question can be answered with a little analysis — and that’s what we’re doing today! Keep in mind, this is a very subjective list and plenty of these are certainly up for debate, which we would love to see in the comments. We think the X-Men choice will be pretty controversial, but who knows! And hey, if you guys like this video enough, maybe we’ll even do a follow up examining other franchises and your own opinion on these!
Stay tuned to the end for a special bonus entry talking about a certain Road Warrior and his wild evolution in cinema!
