Avatar fans will certainly know that Katara is one of the best characters in the show, if not of all time! She is caring, compassionate and generous but she is also extremely powerful, very talented and one of the strongest benders around. Throughout her life Katara has been absolutely integral to the success of two different Avatars and will always share some intrinsic link with the Avatar. All in all, Katara herself has the key attributes and talent to make for a mighty Avatar herself. But maybe she wasn’t supposed to just be an ally of the Avatar. Instead, maybe she was actually destined to be the Avatar all along?

This has been a theory doing the rounds online for sometime now, but is there actually any evidence to support this? Kind of and a long story short the answer is maybe. While a few things would have had to conveniently fall into place, there is a strong argument suggesting that Katara, not Korra, was supposed to be Aang’s successor all along. In this video we will take a deep dive into this theory weighing up the evidence on whether or not Katara was destined to be Avatar as well as other potential candidates who might have been the Avatar after Aang (if you know, he hadn’t gone and frozen himself).
