So the ending of Avatar: The Way of Water was actually pretty straight forward, but that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna talk about it or what it might mean for the future Avatar sequels. So how is all of this gonna play into future Avatar films? Well, it is hard to say, but I have a few ideas.

Let’s start with Spider’s whole deal. The way I see it, he could lead to one of two outcomes.

First, he could go full heel and defect to the human side at some point in a future film. Given his connection to his father, who he does seem to harbor some positive feelings for, that relationship could sway him away from the Navi. Especially if Quaritch is put in danger.

Or, he could wind up being a redeeming force for his father. Don’t get me wrong, Quaritch is basically straight up evil, at least that's the way he is presented to us. However, in this movie Spider helps him to learn a lot more about the Navi. Which could eventually help him realize the error of his ways.

Now, which of those two outcomes do I think is more likely? Definitely that first one.

I could also see future films downplaying Jake and Neytiri’s roles, and playing up Kiri as a sort of new main protagonist. As she brings the full might of the planet down either against the humans, or in order to harmonize with them.

Oh and if I had to guess, Neytiri is 100% gonna die. In fact I’m surprised Quaritch didn’t take her out in this film already. Seemed to be setting that up the entire time.
