While it feels like we’ve been caught in this web for an awful long time, Black Widow is soon to strike. As we wait for the MCU to inject us with it’s latest round of delightful neurotoxins we can’t help but notice the spider sat down beside her in every trailer, namely Yelena Belova. The spy sis plays a big part in the Marvel Comics universe and has some red in her ledger as well. If we all have to choose between what the world wants you to be and who you are… then who is she? Yelena and Natasha’s relationship is built on a dynamic competitive respect. In Marvel comics Yelena has run ins as both a superhero and supervillain as they infiltrate the Thunderbolts. How will she be introduced in the MCU? Will Hawkeye be her way in? Will she get her comic book powers via Taskmaster? Is SHIELD coming after her and what elements of the Red Room program are hardest to shake? All this really looks like we’ll see a new Black Widow as part of a Young Avengers team but lets not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Whether good, bad or a little of both we hope that Yelena keeps some of the chip on her shoulder she had in the comics. Little sister syndrome isn’t easy but if they do go super-adapted, who knows if that becomes the gate through which mutants enter the MCU. They know how to keep us watching don’t they?
