Cocaine Bear: 15 Things YOU Missed
Description
The real question of Cocaine Bear is not so much how it got made, but what took so long for it to get made. In 1985 the narcotics officer turned drug smuggler Andrew Thorton II turned up in a Kentucky driveway with a failed parachute and a bag full of cocaine. It turns out that he had been shoveling bags of the white stuff as he flew over a Kentucky forest. It was only a matter of time before the forest residents found it, namely the forest’s apex predator, the Black Bear. Things ended sadly and quickly for the poor bear but it’s both fun and easy to imagine just what effect cocaine might have on a bear. Almost 40 years later and the world’s greatest writing prompt has been adapted for the screen in director Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear. Keeping its 80s setting and featuring Ray Liota in one of his final roles, Cocaine Bear is a violent gorey romp of the hijinks of a high bear. The movie features nods to roadside attractions with cheeky names, to the 80s themselves, and even to the careers of those involved including a reunion of key cast members of The Americans, the FX tv show about deep cover Russian agents posing as a normal American family. From the final resting place of the bear that came to be known as Pablo Escobear to how you can play as your own coked up bear, let's dig into the secrets and features of Cocaine Bear.
