15 Times The Hero Acted Like The Villain

DC comics have spent decades telling wholesome stories of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League/Super Friends saving the world while upholding values fit for children. Then the DCEU came around and showed audiences the darker side of DC, inspired by the likes of Frank Miller and Alan Moore. The universe started by Zack Snyder showed that beings who are basically gods among their fellow humans face challenges not only fighting against evil villains but trying to do so without turning into villains themselves. We see our favorite DC heroes struggle with xenophobia, brutality, romantic ethics and collateral damage in ways no other version of the DC universe has ever dared to.

Some of these moments are pretty explicit. We see heroes struggle with how to take an impossibly powerful villain down without taking their life. They also struggle with a corrupt legal system that pushes them to take the law into their own hands to extremes we’ve never seen before. Then there are moments that are less transparent. The DCEU asks whether gods should worry about the same ethical conundrums about loved ones as we do. What would it be like if children were granted powers from myths? These are stories that are too far for some but just right for fans who love a spoonful or moral ambiguity in their superhero tales.

So which DC character comes closest to crossing the line into villainy? Let’s find out! Don’t forget to like, subscribe and share for more from Screen Rant!
