Are these movies going to turn out predicting the future...?

Movies have always boldly set their sights on the far-off future for grand ideas for the stories they want to tell… or sometimes even just a handful of years into the near-future in order to make some statements on where we’re all possibly headed as a people. Sometimes, these movies turn out surprisingly accurate and end up predicting inventions that later become commonplace, along with social changes - or stagnations - that ring entirely too true. Other times, they turn out completely off the mark and promise us amazing things like self-lacing shoes, flying cars and less-amazing things like a seventh Jaws movie by 2015, and we all get to have a good laugh at how wrong they were.

But how about those movies taking place THIS year? The movies made either decades ago or just recently that try to imagine what the world will be like in 2021. A year that, in real life, follows a chaotic, surprising and tough year for most. Are they full of bleak, catastrophic predictions of apocalypse, or hope for a brighter future for mankind? Or are they just fun little romps that happened to pick a futuristic sounding number back in the day? Let’s take a look at them and find out.
