Every Shameless Self-Promotion In Space Jam 2: A New Legacy
Description
Space Jam: A New Legacy is out and LeBron James, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola Bunny, Granny, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, Wil E. Coyote, The Roadrunner, the Tasmanian Devil, Porky Pig, Marvin the Martian, Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Speedy Gonzales, Foghorn Leghorn and Michael Jordan...well Michael B. Jordan...are all back to play another round of Looney Tunes basketball. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. decided to stuff the movie full of every other character from every intellectual property they have. Franchises like Game of Thrones, King Kong, The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, It, The Conjuring, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, Joker and the DCAU also came along for the fun whether anyone wanted them or not.
The movie, as propelled by the villain played by Don Cheadle, is set entirely in the WB’s serververse. That means that it could’ve been stuffed with funny references like The Lego Movie, Lego Batman and Ready Player One. Instead, the movie acts as a giant commercial for the next ten years of the company’s catalogue. It’s perfectly fine when a kid’s movie references something fun and childish like Scoob!, Teen Titans Go or Tom & Jerry but it is genuinely strange to see characters from A Clockwork Orange in a movie rated PG. That movie is about as R-rated as R-rated gets. As far as commercials go, this isn’t a good one.
