Hollywood LOVES to change the source material when they adapt comics for the big screen, and of course Spider-Man is no exception. We’ve seen a whole bunch of his rogues gallery brought to the big screen in forms foreign to their comic book counterparts. For a minor change, look at Norman Osborn’s death, which is incredibly accurate to the comics, at least as far as the means. In the comics, this inconvenient impalement comes after Goblin tosses Gwen Stacy off the George Washington Bridge. OK, it technically looks like the Brooklyn Bridge, but whatever. Of course this is later depicted in Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Goober Goblin. In the Sam Raimi version, Gwen Stacy isn’t a part of the story, so instead his death comes after forcing Spidey to choose between Mary-Jane and a small child.

As for bigger changes, take a gander at Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, who of course in the comics is an incredibly unlikable, crotchety old man and in Spider-Man Homecoming… is Michael Keaton. To make things even more different, his suit in the comics is, uh, a little more stripped down and vulture-y — a homemade suit using an electromagnetic harness, which he developed using his skill as an electrical engineer. In the film, of course, he uses old Chitauri technology that he managed to steal after being kicked off the New York cleanup gig by those jerks down in Damage Control, along with a big mechanical glider thingamabob. Additionally, while Toomes does have children in the comics, neither of them is Liz Allan, who is a notable girlfriend and classmate of Peter’s in the comics.
