House of the Dragon: 15 Things They Changed From The Books

When it comes to sticking to the source material, House of the Dragon is fairly faithful to the book that inspired it, Fire & Blood, and the works of George RR Martin. All of the major plot points and storylines are taken from the book and for the most part follows the sequential flow of events. However, despite it being fairly faithful, it is not fully faithful, and there are still a number of changes from the book. Some of these changes are fairly minor, and are just there for convenience or to streamline events, while others are actually pretty major, and shift the story and tone entirely.

That’s why in this video we thought we would comb over Season 1 and look at 15 or so things that the show has changed from the book. That will include the truth about the Queen Who Never Was, the discussion of the Song of Ice and Fire (and the true motives behind Aegon’s coronation), the character which George RR Martin thinks is better in House of the Dragon than they are in his own book, the major character that was completely omitted from the story, the real events behind some notable character deaths, the made-up relationship between two of the main game players, why Otto was actually fired as Hand of the King, the character who actually died in the book was kept alive in the show, the actual astonishing size of the Iron Throne, the truth about Viserys’ health, and a number of scenes and sequences that were created just for the show. This is 15 or so things that have been changed from the book!
