Description

Season 8 of Game of Thrones may have cheapened it slightly, but there is still something about hearing the classic intro tune that makes our souls happy. That’s why when the tune fired out again in a brand new intro for House of the Dragon, we all cheered as if we were watching a football game. But while it is easy to be distracted by the soundtrack, it is what is happening on the screen that is the most important, as unlike Game of Thrones, the intro animation isn’t a map of Westeros but instead something else entirely - a shifting Targeryan family tree.
In this video we will unpack the meaning behind the new intro, the call backs to events that took place in Game of Thrones lore, some foreshadowing that alludes to the trouble to come, how it indicates at some of the connections and alliances taking place between houses, how it also manages to tell us who is dead and who is alive in the series and an Easter Egg to the infamous Dance of the Dragons. This is our unpacking of the House of the Dragon intro.

What did you make of the intro? Happy to hear the theme again? Are you enjoying the show so far? Has House of the Dragon started off better than Game of Thrones?
