Marvel’s collaboration with Netflix, which included solo shows for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and The Punisher, and a little-loved Defenders team-up, ended a few years ago. The rights to the Daredevil have now reverted back to Marvel, and fans are eager to see Charlie Cox reprise the role of the Man Without Fear as a fully fledged member of the MCU. Viewer support for Cox’s iteration of the character is so strong that it even led to a recent Twitter campaign, with the #SaveDaredevil hashtag hoping to pressure Marvel into finding a place for Cox somewhere in the new Disney empire.
Created by Stan Lee, artist Bill Everett and Jack Kirby, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen made his debut in April 1964 in Daredevil #1. A childhood accident took young Matt Murdock’s sight but resulted in his other senses going into overdrive, and the boy trained to eventually become a lawyer by day and a masked vigilante by night. Also known as the Man Without Fear, Daredevil’s combination of ninja-level fighting abilities and Catholic guilt have made him a fascinatingly conflicted character, and a fan favorite.
Having made one ill-fated appearance in a 2003 movie starring Ben Affleck, the character’s Netflix show has inspired a huge amount of goodwill.
