Over the years the Fast and Furious franchise has delivered high octane ride after high octane ride to an audience of fans worldwide. But, with the latest installment coming soon AND returning to the crew and city of 2006’s Tokyo Drift, there’s a jillion questions still left unanswered. Plus, the recent bombshell that Han is actually alive and returning in F9 created even more questions. Questions we’re here to answer. Questions like: how on earth did Han survive the assassination attempt? (Shaw got Han via the time-honored tactic of flipping an exploding Mazda on top of him. Classic villain stuff.) Plus, if Han survived then, why’d he wait so long to show back up? Was he hiding from something or does he have something to hide himself? And, while we’re at it: where’s Neela? Is Sean still the king of drifting? Does being king of drifting carry any associated responsibilities to actually govern or is it a purely ornamental role? Whatever happened to Han’s garage and is there any chance at all that a movie about moderately illicit activity in Japan won’t just blame it all on the Yakuza?
With Dom and the family returning alongside Sean, Han, and (most) of the rest of the short-lived Tokyo Drift crew, F9 has a lot of opportunities to tie up loose ends... you know, in between the dozen or so fist-pumping-car-flipping-one-liner-adrenaline-discos worth of action sequences the Fast and Furious franchise may not be contractually obligated to stuff into every installment but never seem to miss an opportunity to include.
