It’s hard to even remember a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) wasn’t constantly dominating the box office, being reported on or getting praised on social media. Even more crazy is that Iron Man was the superhero that would kick things off. Tony Stark wasn’t Spider-Man or Superman in terms of popularity but thanks to determined leadership and an unwavering vision by the crew; Iron Man would become the face of this unstoppable juggernaut. Today we look back on 2008’s Iron Man and all it achieved. Marvel took a risk when they started their own studio. One that was clearly worth the gamble. It’s fitting that after a decades-worth of scripts coming and going from different studios; Marvel would be the one to get it done right. Hiring Jon Favreau and casting Robert Downey Jr. were just the first in a string of brilliant decisions by Kevin Feige and his team. From a technical standpoint, Iron Man still holds up, with state-of-the-art CGI meshed with practical effects, from some of the best talent in the business. The MCU as a whole is a cinematic achievement that’s garnered millions of fans all across the world. Iron Man created a legacy that will continue to grow and change shape for many years to come. Films such as Black Panther 2, Black Widow, Captain Marvel 2 and many more will continue to build out the franchise, with the one constant always coming back to Robert Downey and his famous line: “I AM IRON MAN”.
