John Boyega on Why “Small Axe” Follows Star Wars
Description
"Small Axe" star John Boyega explains to IMDb why he chose to collaborate with Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen as his follow-up project to the Star Wars films. Boyega also explains why he had no reservations with portraying Leroy Logan, a real-life officer in the London Metropolitan Police in the 1970s who founded the Black Police Association. The “Small Axe” film, “Red, White and Blue” explores Logan’s story, and each of the five films in Amazon Prime Video/BBC anthology film series tells a distinct story about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London during the 1960s and 1970s. “Red, White and Blue” also stars Steve Toussaint, Joy Richardson, Neil Maskell, Stephen Boxer, and Tyrone Huntley in a script written by McQueen and Courttia Newland. McQueen may be best known for his 2013 film ’12 Years a Slave’ that won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong’o. His win for Best Picture at the 86th Academy Awards made McQueen the first Black British producer to ever receive the award and the first Black British director of a Best Picture winner.
