Lightyear: Every 90s Reference You Missed

Lightyear hit theatres last month and it was a fun action adventure filled ride that we enjoyed quite a bit. It had wonderful jokes, emotionally moving moments and action packed battle scenes. We finally got to see what Andy saw that made him become obsessed with Buzz lightyear. The film says it perfectly, in 1995 Andy saw a movie about Buzz lightyear…this is that movie. The movie supposedly takes place in the 90s and there are a couple 90s references that really bring us back. The 90s were a special time filled with toys, technology, fashion and music. Lightyear gives the 90s vibes in subtle ways, it's nothing in your face by any means but it's in the small details. It really feels like a movie I saw in 1995 starring Brendan Fraser, the face of The Mummy and the classic 90s movie, George of the Jungle. Lightyear tells us the story of the space ranger Buzz Lightyear, who goes on a mission to find a way back home for him and his crew after they crash land on a strange distant planet 4.2 million light years away. Come to think about it, this movie is loaded with Toy Story easter eggs, but if this is the movie Andy saw in the 90s…how are there easter eggs to Andy's life and adventures?…It's better not to think about it too deeply. Let’s take a short dive into the 90s references in Lightyear.
