As soon as Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury appeared at the end of the first Iron Man and told Robert Downey Jr that he wanted to discuss something called ‘the Avengers Initiative’, we knew - or at least hoped - that this meant we could expect a full comic book-style shared universe project.
How much this hope would come true, nobody could have predicted. Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe unfolded with The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and finally The Avengers…
And that was just the beginning!
Of course, we’re now on to Phase Four of the MCU. But it’s fascinating to look back on previous phases and see just how ambitious and interconnected Marvel, Disney and Kevin Feige’s plans for a massive shared continuity turned out to be. What turning points were there on the road to Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and, of course, the triumph - and defeat - of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame? What small events caused the biggest ripples? Who was mentioned here and later turned out to be a key player?
In this video, we’re going to be deep diving into Phase Two of the MCU, a phase that contained Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.
And we’re going to be asking: which were the most momentous moments?
