It’s a slow time for summer blockbusters, but if you’re bummed out about Marvel’s “Black Widow” getting delayed, have we got a superhero flick for you! We’re talking about “The Old Guard” which is based on the comic books written by Greg Rucka. While the film is overall faithful to the story, there are a few unexpected twists and turns and this video will contain spoilers as we go over some of the major differences between the film and the source material. Charlize Theron was amazing as Andromache of Scythia, but there was a major alteration regarding Andy’s powers for a very intriguing reason according to director Gina Prince-Bythewood. KiKi Layne portrays Nile Freeman who has a much bigger part to play in the film. Quynh’s return was surprising but the character is quite different from her in-print counterpart, Noriko. James Copley was a much more sympathetic character when played by Chiwetel Ejofor, and we only saw a mere hint of what a monster Merrick really is.
What do you think about this Netflix movie? Do you think it’s begging for a sequel or do you wish it had remained on the pages of a graphic novel?
