Rick and Morty may have the most confusing but simultaneously coherent universe in all of modern day media. The series regularly messes around with its own canon, having fans speculate endlessly about the timeline. However, a consistent thematic thread throughout the series is the relationships of its characters. And among this, perhaps the single greatest enigma in this existential science fiction nightmare… Is of course the relationship of Beth and Jerry!
Ever since the iconic season 1 episode Rick Potion No. 9, there’s been a lingering notion that Morty’s original post-apocalyptic dimension could play a role going forward. Of course, we returned when Morty took Summer to the Cronenberg infested reality in The Rickshank Redemption. It was revealed that Beth, Jerry and Summer were living their own twisted, happy lives.
The fact that Beth admitted that the absence of Rick and Morty finally made her happy, it perhaps showed that their constant dimension shattering adventures are what’s keeping the family apart. On top of this, Jerry had gained a badass survivalist persona, which allowed him to finally become the father and husband he always wanted to be. It’s very possible that with the current direction of the show, we could see a return to Morty’s original timeline!
So in this video, we’ll be taking a dive on how the ORIGINAL Beth and Jerry, from the Cronenberg dimension, could return in the next season of Rick and Morty!
