The fantasy genre has never been more popular! Although it’s fun to throw rocks at Game of Thrones and make fun of its disappointing final season, no one can deny it’s monumental impact on television. It was a true worldwide phenomenon, so of course other streaming services wanted to get in on the action and develop their own fantasy projects. Most big ones have been successful so far. Netflix’s The Witcher gained an incredibly popular following thanks to Henry Cavill’s abs… and a solid story I guess... and Amazon’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings adaptation is sure to be a huge hit. But will another rise up and declare its dominance in the fantasy TV genre?
Shadow and Bone is going to try! Adapted from the bestselling book series by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone follows multiple plot lines and characters, but mainly the center of the show is Alina Starkov, an orphan who discovers she has a unique gift that can help save her country from monsters and darkness and her relationship with General Kirigan, known in the novels as a different name. This adaptation is going to be interesting because not only is the first season adapting the Shadow and Bone book trilogy, but it’s also incorporating elements from the Six of Crows duology that’s also set in the same universe, nicknamed the Grishaverse.
So is the show going to be worth checking out? Well let’s find out! Today’s video is all about Shadow and Bone and whether it sounds worthy enough to be the next big fantasy hit. So give it a look and be sure to let us know when you’re done whether you’ll be checking out the new show when it premieres on Netflix on April 23rd!
