Description

Lightsabers are a timeless spectacle on the big screen, but what's even more thrilling? Watching a sword fight with flippin' lasers. Across 40 years, lightsabers remain undeniably cool. While the original trilogy drew from intimate sword combat styles like Western fencing and Japanese Kendo, inspired by Samurai films, the prequels introduced more bombastic techniques. Since then, lightsaber combat has evolved, incorporating diverse martial arts styles. In the upcoming Ahsoka series, she will showcase various styles to adapt on the fly, according to the show’s stunt coordinator.

In the Star Wars galaxy, lightsabers come in more than just blue and red – there are eight canon colors so far. With Disney's stewardship of the franchise, significant changes have been made. While some fans cling to the original Legends material, others embrace these shifts. Disney has reimagined the history of the lightsaber, departing from the Protosaber concept of early lore. Instead, they've depicted a primitive version resembling something crafted by a caveman, evolving from a bare crystal to one wrapped in aluminum rods and twine. It's a fresh perspective on the iconic weapon's origins.
