Hey, They Got Rid Of That Thing I Like From The Thing I Like!
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Dune, the Uncharted movie trailer to the Super Mario casting announcement, the Twilight final fight to the Civil War comic, Lord of the Rings mythology to the Lightyear first look, the history of Hollywood is littered with franchises, soft reboots, hard reboots, remakes, remixes, intellectual property and a whole host of other buzzwords. Films have been adapted from every conceivable type of source material - books, comics, TV shows, video games, board games, you name it.
And the thing is, when these cinematic versions are made, there are always going to be some alterations that occur along the way. Some stuff is going to be messed around with, this character might get an overhaul, this plot point might not be included or they might flip it in some way. It’s the nature of the development process. Doesn’t matter if it’s Disney, Peter Jackson or the MCU doing the adapting - not everything that you loved the first time round is going to make it to the big screen.
Does that mean people won’t complain? Ha! Have you ever been on the internet?
Regardless, it happens. And in this video we’re going to look at 12 movies that took some major liberties with their source material. Was it a good thing? Sometimes! Was it bad? Also sometimes! Let Screen Rant take you by the hand, and head off on a magical journey.
