There was a team of elite Firebenders *before* Azula

Azula’s team was originally made of up Ninjas and Elite Female Firebenders? This I gotta see!
With the release of “Avatar: the Last Airbender - Art of the Animated Series”, we were fortunate enough to get a glimpse into the development of this fantastic Nickelodeon show. And one of the fascinating things hidden in those beautiful pages was the original concepts for what would later become Ozai’s Angels.

We see these concepts used elsewhere in Avatar content, like in the Dark Horse comics, Aang Airbending himself away from the Yuyan archers and even the Blue Spirit’s design?
Mai and Ty Lee’s betrayal are instrumental to Azula’s (Grey DeLisle) eventual mental downfall and defeat during her Agni Kai against Zuko (Dante Basco). We would’ve been missing out on some of the great Ember Island moments if these two weren’t included in the series!
But with the ATLA Netflix adaptation slowly approaching, it’s definitely interesting to discover and theorize what might’ve happened if we had the Fire Warriors instead.
Would they have been able to take over Ba Sing Se? Could they have defeated the Kyoshi Warriors? Would Azula have descended into madness the same way she did in the show? Could this have affected Azula’s existing relationship with her brother and Fire Lord Ozai?
Let’s find out!
