The Simpsons: Bart Is The Narrator Of The Whole Show

The Simpsons have been around forever. Well, not forever but 32 seasons is nothing to sneeze at, and neither is their associated status as a global superpower in terms of reach and merchandising. Millions of people all over the world have grown up with no knowledge of a time before the Simpsons, and we are only now just beginning to question what it will be like for those who arrive at birth after the culmination of the Springfield Saga. However, just as any world mythology does, the Simpsons has invited criticism and theorizing from legions of adherents who wish to better understand their cultural touchstone.

Throughout the years hundreds of theories meant to explain away every angle of the series have been floated, fought over, and debunked time and time again. Could Homer be in a coma? Did Maggie shoot first? The theories abound. Today, though, we’re taking some time to delve into one of the series more contentious (if a tad silly) theories by asking: “Is Bart actually telling the story of his childhood in the future?” In other words, is The Simpsons actually thirty-two seasons of How I Met Your Mother by Bart Simpson? If so, what evidence is there, and, gasp-- could it all be Sideshow Bob’s fault?
