When Avatar came out to unsuspecting audiences in 2009, it took the cinema world by storm. With its highly realistic and immersive 3-D experience, the James Cameron epic rightfully revolutionized the world of 3-D Animation. Staying true to his image as the unforgiving auteur, Cameron brought in his own technology, like stereoscopic cameras, to give us a visual marvel that is still held as the standard of the remarkable animation today.
Twelve years and multiple delays later, we're all set to see a new facet of Pandora. Cameron's highly anticipated Avatar sequel has finally chalked up a new release date and will hit theatres in 2022. The movie is said to have finished filming and the on-set visuals are already brewing up a storm. The main subject of enquiry in this cycle of Avatar 2 news is a roaring superstar who has dethroned Tom Cruise as the record-holder of the most amount of time spent underwater. Cruise, who doesn't stop short of banging into walls and hanging off airplanes, had a record of six minutes spent submerged underwater without any scuba gear for oxygen sustenance. This new star, however, has created a new and far more daring underwater record of more than seven whole minutes!
Avatar has a lot to its name, but it still falls short of delivering a decisive plot, likable main characters or villains who aren't simple caricatures. Avatar 2, with its star cast and underwater adventures, looks poised to change at least some of that. But if it doesn't, then this record still puts it on the charts of cinematic diving greatness.
