The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a factory that pumps out fantastic superhero films every year. After Iron Man created a grounded world for the franchise to expand upon, Marvel got to work setting up all the movies they’d need to make The Avengers. That has rolled along through Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and more. One of the weirder MCU projects during Phase One was the film that had the difficult task of combining the over-the-top world of Asgardian gods into the grounded world of Tony Stark. It became a fish-out-of-water story where young Odinson, played by Chris Hemsworth, finds himself ousted by Anthony Hopkins’ Odin and the machinations of Tom Hiddelston’s instantly iconic Loki. He found himself in New Mexico where he met Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, SHIELD’s Phil Coulson and Clint, Hawkeye, Barton. This was the film that set the universe up for a bright future of sci fi action no one could’ve predicted when Jon Favreau started the party in 2008. The franchise continued with the lackluster The Dark World which took on a darker tone and featured the confusing Dark Elves as led by Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith the Accursed. After that film was met with a mixed reaction from fans, Marvel went HAAARD in the other direction with a movie from What We Do In The Shadows director Taika Watiti. He reinvented the franchise into a bright, hilarious science fiction franchise which reveled in everything weird about these Norse aliens.
