Toy Story: 15 Mistakes That Made It Past Editing
Description
In 1995, a little company called Pixar released the first fully computer-animated feature film. They got around the limitations of the technology of the day by deciding that the subjects of their film wouldn’t be humans or animals, but toys who could come to life and move on their own. Directed by studio head John Lasseter and starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and a bevy of other comedy stars, the film would go on to huge success, kickstart a whole new form of animation, and effectively change the movie industry forever. It was a classic, and maybe even a masterpiece.
It was also packed full of continuity errors, goof-ups, and little technical problems that fans all around the world have spent the last twenty-five years cataloguing and picking apart. What can I say… When you revolutionize an entire artistic medium, people tend to pay attention to your work. It’s still fun to look at all of these little loose threads though, see how far we’ve come, and realize that animation isn’t really all that different from live action film when it comes to human error. So why not hang out with us for a while as we count down fifteen such nitpicks. We’ve got boxes that open and close on their own, whole swathes of interior design that change in a blink of the eye, handles that change color when you’re not looking, and more disappearing pieces of set dressing than you can shake a melted action figure on a stick at!
