Welcome back, ScreenRanters! Recently, former Iron Man thespian, Robert Downey Jr, and his wife, producer Susan Downey, spilled the beans on the future of the Sherlock Holmes film franchise. We could be looking at a Sherlock cinematic universe! The third installment is due to come out in 2021. From there, the Sherlock characters might be getting their own films or shows through platforms like HBO Max. Today, we’re going to see if a Sherlock universe could work. Using some other successful and failed cinematic universes as examples. As well as see which characters should get their own productions.
Now for the spoiler paragraph. If you like surprises, we suggest you stop reading and watch the video multiple times. We’ll first examine why Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s epic is getting this treatment. As well as the reaction of his estate to Netflix’s Enola Holmes film. We’ll then look at a variety of characters that could get their own productions. Such as Jude Law’s John Watson, Rachel McAdams’s Irene Adler, and Jared Harris’s James Moriarty to name some examples. We’ll see which of these characters should get films or TV series from the expansion. As well as speculate on how they’ll look. Then, we’ll examine the successful universes. Such as Marvel’s MCU. And the universes that didn’t work. Such as the Dark Universe. We’ll see what the Sherlock team could learn from these attempts. Finally, we’ll see if the switch from Guy Richie directing to Dexter Fletcher has any impact on this potentially new cinematic universe.
